Chapellis Champions Challenge

8 Sep 2016 by Shannon Dixon

Ladies & Gentlemen,

I thought you may be interested in an upcoming event which is to take place in few weeks in one of the best Billiards Room in Sydney, at Killara Golf Club. Most people have never heard of it I know. That is because it is a private club and access to the public is very rare, but there is a special fundraiser for Billiards Australia and we would love you to come along for an evening of fine dining and Billiards and Snooker from the best of the best.

Rob Hall is visiting Australia for 24 hours only ( on the way back from events in NZ). Rob reached the number 1 ranking in World Billiards in October 2014. He is currently ranked 3 in the world. He is the reigning UK and reigning English Champion. He will be accompanied by Gary Norman, World 23 and our favourite Sydney-based pom Roger Farebrother to form an English team.

Ranged against the Brits we have a great Australian team, captained by none other than cricket legend Ian Chappell, who is also the patron of the ABSC. Ian has kindly agreed to step up in class to take on the pros and is hoping for a lot of crowd support from the locals.

Ian will be playing Scotch Doubles( alternate shots) Snooker. Should be great fun to see if he gets good position for the pros!

With Ian we are delighted to have 3 times World Billiards Champion Robby Foldvari. It would be fair to say that Robby has not focussed on Billiards in recent times as the lure of the pool circuit has been paying the bills, ( he has been the 1 ranked pool player in Oz for the last 4 years) but don’t get to be triple World Champion without huge talent and legendary fighting spirit. Rounding out the Australian side is Joe Minici, reigning Oceania Champion and expert in both Billiards and Snooker, with multiple Australian titles in both disciplines.

The night will be roughly split between Snooker and Billiards so there is something for everyone, including a fabulous dinner and drinks included in the ticket price. At the dinner we will be interviewing all the players about their lives in sport and presenting Ian with his first ever Australian rep waistcoat.

If however you did not feel like dinner the other option is the exhibition, matches and coffee and dessert.

100% of the proceeds are being reinvested into cue sports so this is your chance to do yourself a favour and do something good for the sport as well. It is a unique event that you will remember forever.

I attach a flyer which gives all the details. Bookings will be essential as space is strictly limited. They can be made either through the club or on the Billiards Australia website

www.billiardsaustralia.com

I hope to see all of you on Wednesday 28 September.
